About Us

The Waikino Cabins are nestled above the Karangahake Gorge near Waihi on the East Coast of New Zealand.  This area borders the Kaimai Mamaku Forest Park and is the gateway to the Coromandel Peninsula.  The area boasts amazing scenic river and waterfall walks, historic tunnels giving a taste of a bygone mining era and mountain tracks.  Karangahake gorge is well known for the Hauraki Rail Cycle Trail which very popular for cyclists and walkers of all fitness levels.

The Waikino Cabins are ideal for anyone wanting to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city.  There is limited wifi due to our rural location.  Cell phone coverage if you need to stay in touch.  The cabins are private, with a stunning rural outlook of the Kaimai Mountain range and Karangahake Mountain.  You can watch the amazing sunsets from the comfort of your private deck.

The cabins construction was finished in 2020 and can be described as rustic, very comfortable with high quality furnishings.

Your Hosts

Jeff and Patricia Wood have owned the lifestyle block since 2016 and live on the property.  We feel privileged to live in this beautiful part of New Zealand, with the opportunity to be able to share it with others.

We enjoy watching the calves grow while grazing peacefully in the paddocks and our free range chooks (eggs are available in season with the self-serve continental breakfast).  Our bearded collie Mia is very friendly but she keeps her distance. Sparrowcatcher our black cat completes the picture.

We are friendly and helpful when required, yet will always respect your privacy.
